Due to its extreme popularity, social media has changed the way we utilize our marketing efforts. We have evolved from the days of publishing print ads to curating content such as videos relevant to current trends. Today, social media is crucial to reach your consumer.

In this day and age, almost everyone you know has social media in some format. Whether it’s Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, or even Linkedin, it’s extremely likely that you are present on at least one platform.

According to Pew research, 72% of adults utilize social media. So, how do you start an online presence to leverage this more direct connection with your consumer? Here are 7 steps to start your social media presence:

Identify your target market and research which social media platforms they are present on.

For example, if your audience is primarily 18-25 year olds, it’s likely that you will want to focus on building out an Instagram and a Tik Tok.

Research the type of content your market relates to the most, and how you can engage their interest.

This could be focusing content on educational content, humor, or trends. Or sometimes a mix of them all!

Create relevant content.

Are you a makeup brand? Utilize influencers! Is your business selling a service such as massages? Post videos of relaxation techniques! There are endless avenues that one can pursue to be relevant to the type of content and niche that your audience is a part of.

Pay attention to trends.

Trends are a great way to engage your audience while also staying relevant.

Post consistently.

Ideally you should be posting once a day, or at least 3-5 times a week.

Create a cadence of different types of content.

This could be creating infographics, video content, longer blogs, podcasts, short tips and tricks, etc.

Engage with your audience!

This could be through commenting back and forth, asking your audience to engage with the post such as answering a question, giving their opinion, or reacting with an emoji. Building a relationship with your audience can help further their personal attachment to your brand and your purpose.

Building an online presence can be a daunting task. It’s a never ending loop of brainstorming, researching, writing, and posting. But, it can be one of the most effective ways to directly reach your target market. Social media is a great tool to have in our belt. It requires a little bit of hard work and a lot of creativity, but it has the ability to bring your marketing strategy to the next level!
