Distance learning
Start is thinking smarter about how online learning engages students.
The ask
Helping to pioneer the distance learning movement, Start worked with the Pixoul team to create a comprehensive mobile app for K-12 students, their teachers, and their parents. Our work not only enabled tremendous growth in the distance learning arena, but also challenged school administrations to think differently about how learning happens in the 21st century.
Our work included a industry research, business goals and technical specifications, personas, user journey maps, empathy maps, site maps and information architecture, wireframes, UX (user experience) interactive prototypes, visual design, guerilla testing, and design thinking workshops.
The process
The Start team began their most important work with Pixoul before we ever put pen to paper. Working in small, coordinated teams, we led a series of Design Thinking workshops and trainings for the entire Start organization—teaching everyone about the value of good design, including how it aids in sales enablement.
While primarily focusing our efforts within the product team, we also took a truly bottom-up approach to reshaping the culture at Start, including teaching relevant Design Thinking values and principles across each level of their org chart—from c-suite executives to individual contributors.
The result
Focusing on both product development and Design Thinking training, our team helped Start align goals, set priorities, and deliver a highly valued app for distance learning.
